How To Remove Yellow Stains And Odor Off A Pillow Top Mattress

Pillow tops mattresses are susceptible to stains thanks to the absorbent power of the top layer. But if your mattress gathered stains over time, you should know that there are a few ways you can restore it to its initial state with some quality household items.

I know that removing stains from a pillow top mattress is a challenge many people are afraid to face, but using the right cleaners and avoiding too much liquid, you will be able to remove those unsightly stains and odor without ruining the fabric and I’ll teach how!

First, grab the necessary supplies:

  • Baking Soda
  • Distilled White Vinegar
  • An empty spray bottle
  • Paper towels or rags

Then, start the cleaning process:

  • Spray the stains with vinegar. Don’t pour vinegar directly onto the stains, because it may over-saturate the mattress. Let the vinegar sit for 5-10 minutes. If you have a ceiling fan, turn it on, or run a stand alone fan if you can. At the very least open the windows. The increased air flow helps to speed up the cleaning process.
  • Using paper towels or rags, soak up the vinegar. Press several layers of paper towels into the mattress for this step.
  • Sprinkle baking soda all over the mattress. You can use a sieve for this step. If there are a lot of clumps just break them up with your fingers. Now, let the baking soda sit for several hours. After a couple of hours, you’ll begin to see the baking soda caking as it soaks up the vinegar (and takes that nasty odor with it!).
  • Vacuum up the baking soda from the mattress. Make sure to go over the crevices several times.
  • As you can see the stains are pretty much gone.

Allow the mattress to dry naturally. This can take a while, but you can help to speed up the process by opening the bedroom windows.
