DIY Drain Cleaner To Fix A Stinky Shower Drain

If you’re reading this article, I’m pretty sure your nose was attacked by an unidentified smell when you walked into the bathroom or kitchen. The smell grows stronger as you step further, and the stinky odor seems to emanate from your drains. It’s natural to think that running water will eliminate the smell, but it makes things worse.

It just happened when I walked into the bathroom to take a refreshing shower after a hard and busy day at work, and my senses detected a stingy and pungent rotten eggs-like odor coming from the shower. Furthermore, the water wasn’t running down the drain as it used to. The reason for a clogged and stinky drain may vary – soap scum, long hair or mold – and must be handled immediately.

I know that if you clean the drains once a week this problem can be avoided. I searched on the internet and I found the perfect natural solution to remove sewage odor, to sanitize the plumbing and reduce the accumulation of debris clogging out the drains.

Here is how to prepare this homemade drain cleaner:

Step 1: Mix 1/2 cup baking soda with 1/4 cup table salt.
Step 2: Pour the mixture down the drain.
Step 3: Pour 1 cup of heated vinegar down your drain; the mix will create foam and bubbles.
Step 4: Let the solution sit for 15 minutes.
Step 5: Run hot tap water down the drain for at least 15 to 30 seconds.

ℹ After unclogging the drain and removing the sewage smell, add a few drops of lavender or citrus oil and run the water. There will be a pleasant smell coming from it.

‼ If the water does not flush, repeat the unclogging process again.
