Natural Methods To Clean A Burnt Iron Soleplate And Prevent Burning Your Clothes

Over time, scalding and burns accumulate on the iron’s soleplate, which may leave stains on the clothes. To clean the soleplate you can use two simple and cheap tricks that will make your iron look like new without damaging the fabric from which it is made. Been there, done that! I’ve ruined my favorite dress because I’ve ironed it with a sticky iron.

As a recommendation, take a look over the soleplate after ironing any clothing item.

Salt and vinegar

Prepare a solution of 1 cup of vinegar and 1 of salt. Put the vinegar and salt on the fire and mix well until the salt melts. Let the mixture cool down. Soften a clean cloth in the solution obtained and wipe the soleplate with it. Repeat as often as necessary until the limescale and burnt disappears. Then wipe the iron with a clean cloth.

Salt grungy

To clean the limescale deposits on the soleplate, choose coarse salt. You need a clean cotton cloth and salt. Put the cloth on the ironing board and cover half it with some coarse salt. Heat the iron at full temperature and start ironing the salt, and then iron the other half of the cloth. Your iron will look like new.

Personal tip: as in health, is better to prevent than to treat, so it’s best to clean the iron’s soleplate once in while with the above solutions, and preventing ruining your clothes.
