I’m Saved! Best Method To Remove Grease Stains On Silk Without Damaging The Fabric

Hey there! Last Saturday, David decided to surprise me and took me to a fancy Mediterranean restaurant where we had the most delicious seafood dinner. I simply love seafood – from lobsters to grilled sea wolf – I could eat anything. So, we left the kids with their grandma and we went downtown for a perfect Saturday night together.
For such a delightful night, I decided that it’s time to wear that sleeveless dusty-pink silk dress I bought last year and never had the chance to wear it. And I thought it was the last time, because I accidentally dropped food on my dress, leaving behind a huge stain of something greasy. Silk is that type of fabric that absorbs grease like a sponge. Even if you spill a small drop of grease it will look like you’ve spilled the entire bottle of oil.
At least my tummy was happy due to all the seafood goodies. But, no one has a mother-in-law like mine. She is very understanding and besides that, she knows all these tiny secrets about household, and removing grease stains on silk is one of them.
Don’t worry if your favorite silk dress or blouse has been stained with something greasy, because my mother-in-law method in getting rid of it works wonders.

Just purchase some ingredients…

  • salt
  • seltzer water
  • clean cloth
  • silk cleaner
  • gentle laundry detergent

…and start the cleaning process

  • Apply table salt onto the grease spot. Rub it in gently with your fingers. Leave it on the garment for about an hour to absorb the grease, then remove it.
  • Moisten a clean cloth with seltzer water. Dab the seltzer onto the spot to remove as much of the grease as possible.
  • Allow the garment to air-dry. Put the stained part of the silk facedown on a stack of paper towels. Apply a silk cleaner to the back side of the stain.
  • Blot the area with paper towels until the grease is gone. Allow the garment to air-dry, then rinse the spot under cool water.
  • Hand-wash the garment in lukewarm water with gentle laundry detergent.

That’s all! My silk dress is back on track again. I can’t wait to wear again!
