How To Get Disgusting Vomit Stains Out Of Mattresses

It’s flu season baby! This means that your mattress is the main target for illness and vomit – and cleaning vomit is one of the most disgusting messes that you can ever clean up. Unlike beddings and clothes, mattresses can’t be tossed in the washer to be cleaned up and deodorized. They require special care in order to avoid funny smells, odors and stains.

How to care for your mattress
I always choose green cleaning instead of those harsh chemicals found on the market. As most housewives know, caring for your mattress is not such a hard task. You can easily sprinkle baking soda over it, let it sit for 24 hours and then vacuum it thoroughly. This way you’ll remove most odors impregnated in the mattress.

How to get vomit stains out of your mattress

Whether is stomach virus or you had too much before bedtime, puking is imminent, and most often happens in bed because you don’t have enough time to run to the bathroom. However, cleaning the vomit stains from a mattress requires a different solution than removing sweat, blood or urine stains.

You Need:

  • white vinegar
  • water
  • baking soda

Instructions:

In a spray bottle, prepare a cleaning solution made from equal parts of water and white vinegar. Spray the soiled area of the mattress, then blot with a clean towel. Continue spraying and blotting until the mark is gone. Sprinkle a little bit of baking soda over the treated area. After an hour, vacuum away the baking soda, and let the mattress air dry.

Tips to maintain your mattress clean longer:

  • Change the sheets at least once a week to prevent dead skin from building up on the bed.
  • Invest in a mattress cover. This will protect moisture from getting into the mattress, which will help prevent the growth of mold and mildew.
  • Vacuum the mattress once a month to suck up dust mites and to get rid of odors sprinkle baking soda over it and let it act for 10 minutes.
  • Flip your mattress every three months. If it’s a pillowtop mattress, rotate it from top to bottom every six months.
